ABOUT THE GEARAFFES

About Us

Congratulations Gearaffes
for a Great 2017-2018  Season
The Gearaffes are a joint venture between North Moncto Technical Career Center and North Penn High School.

Our mission is to give middle school and high school students an opportunity to use their  skills in science and mathematics in such a way that they become engaged and educated in STEM topics, in the hopes that they are better prepared for real life experiences, college, career endeavors.

Gearaffes is a competitive robotics team located in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. We participate in FIRST Robotics (team #5404). We are a third year team continuing to improve and aspiring to make it to the World Championship in Saint Louis, Missouri.

Picture
Our team is made up of students from 9th to 12th grade that attend either North Penn High School , one of the 3 North Penn Middle Schools, or Montco Technical Career Center which has students from Souderton, Methacton, Perkiomen Valley, and Wissahickon High Schools. Our student team members are guided by our voluntary mentors.

We have received a grant in order to partner with the North Wales Library to hold a summer program that allows us to teach middle school students about robotics. We will teach the students the basics of robotics and programming. We will use Spheros, which are robots that allow young people to experience robotics in a simple and fun way.  In addition, we are planning to start a team in the First Lego League in order to introduce younger kids to the STEM topics and educate them on the basics of robotics and programming. We also plan to invite younger kids to participate in the First Tech Challenge Team at Penndale Middle School in order to give them experience in the world of robotics and prepare them to join Gearaffes.
